While others stare half-asleep at the television set, and rejoice at the announcement that school and work have been cancelled due to Pedring’s unforgiving gust, other less fortunate souls scamper for shelter and save whatever’s left of their belongings. While others whine and whimper about how the electricity had been gone for hours, though safe in their homes, others pray in despair-hoping their loved ones are safe.

The 194 km/h strong Pedring (internationally known as Nesat) which brought in punishing winds and grueling rainfall stormed the Philippines last September 27, 2011 causing a stoppage of normal day-to-day commerce and activities. The typhoon caused a plethora of flooded streets, P912 million worth of crops destroyed, P72 million damaged infrastructure, 5000 shattered houses, rupture of sea walls, 35 confirmed casualties, 35 missing people and 13 severe injuries while 1000 families have been evacuated out of their dismantled homes. In totality, 35,273 Filipino families have been affected and 171,570 lives have been scathed forever.
